Parkrose School District
PROJECT OVERVIEW
In 2011, NIS performed a District-wide technology review for the Parkrose School District. The assessment included a review of the District’s cable and infrastructure, LAN and WAN connectivity, wireless connectivity, and Building Automation System [BAS] components (including video surveillance and recording, and access control systems). The resulting reports set the stage for the design of four new schools (three grade schools, one middle school, and one high school), as well as District-wide technology and security upgrades.
The outcome of this review was a structured cable refresh to include category 6 copper and laser optimized fiber infrastructure at all existing schools, a networked video security system for all schools with PC and iPad access for District staff, and wireless access for the entire District. Additionally, NIS provided an active electronics upgrade. During phase one of the active electronics upgrade project, NIS evaluated the existing network, developed network diagrams, created a hardware requirements list, and worked with the District to procure the necessary hardware through a competitive RFQ process. Phase two included programming and configuring all devices, physical installation and documentation of all equipment, and testing and validation for correct operation.
As a sub consultant to Dull Olson Weekes – IBI Group Architects, Inc. (DOWA), NIS is currently performing technology consulting services and complete documentation (specifications and drawings) for communications technology design. The design work includes cabling infrastructure, access control, and video surveillance for the District’s replacement middle school, replacement high school, and District office. This design and specification work was recently completed for the three grade schools.
